The Reconstruction Era was a period that followed the American Civil War. The main purpose was to bring the South back together and basically starting a whole new rebuilding process so it would be part of the Union again. The South had to ratify it's amendments to be readmitted by the US and split the South into five different bases. This lasted from 1865-1877,some feel that it was successful because slavery ended and some feel that it was a failure because racism is still a issue. During this time period certain acts have passed and laws have been set African Americans had freedom but it still didn't mean equality. President Lincoln was assassinated when the Reconstruction first took place later his spot had gotten replaced by President Johnson. Johnson was indeed a racist so of course he didn't want slaves being free. Grant was elected president after Andrew Johnson's term ended and the blacks were able to vote this time. African American's were getting more leeway in America they were able to attend schools, ride buses there were even black getting into the government. The KKK stopped many blacks from doing a lot of political business stopping many from voting by terrorizing them. Slavery was abolished and Reconstruction was coming to an end, Northerners left the South to deal with their own people because they were tired of fighting for them.
Blow is a picture from google during Reconstruction Era passing one of it's amendments.

Hello Dennis I am Dontanya Nice to meet you.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with what you said about the KKK stopping us blacks from doing anything slavery was always an issue in the reconstruction time of the history. Racism is and will always be an issue because of the time we are going through and especially who are president is and how they want the president to be impeached. KKK's weren't the main issue but it was a big issue back in the day.
Wassup Dennis I am Hykeem. I agree with you with you when you said the whole thing was to try in bring the south back together. I also feel the KKK stopped the blacks from doing a lot. I feel racism will always be a problem with the world we live in.
ReplyDeleteHey Dennis, I like how you compared the views of others and their thoughts on the success of reconstruction. I can see how some believed it wasn’t successful. Years after reconstruction Jim crow laws were made to keep African Americans segregated from whites. This is a form or racism that can still be seen and relates to racism in todays time .
